I’m Shea, a 30 year old guy living in Maine. I’m the Earth Matters writer at MNN.com where I cover green politics, renewable energy, and climate change. I use Twitter and StumbleUpon a lot and I have a small tshirt company I’m trying to get off the ground.

In the past I’ve helped start a few popular blogs, was arrested as a radical student drug legalization activist, worked as a graphic designer, videographer and producer, a pro blogger, eco-entrepreneur, and I started a dot-com turned dot-bom that almost made me a really rich 21 year old.

When I’m not working or with the fam, I like to rock climb, hang out in my 500 square foot backyard tipi office, and play ultimate frisbee year round (not always an easy thing to do in Maine).

I’m the #1 fan of The Super Secret Project.

Life hasn’t always been easy, but it’s never been boring.

If you use Facebook at all, you may have run across the ‘25 Things About Me‘ meme. I wrote one (I dig those kinds of lists), here she is.

25 Things About Me
1- I graduated high school at 6′0″ and grew an extra three inches by the time I hit 20.
2- I went to a different school every year from Kindergarten until the 7th grade.
3- I am nuts about Ultimate Frisbee. It’s one of the things I do well and I’ll be doing it as long as I can walk.
4- I started a dotcom when I was 21 and was pretty rich on paper for a couple of years (until the dotcom turned dotbom).
5- I’ve been chasing the dragon of those paper riches every since and have started six companies in all. I’m still chasing.
6- My mom was killed when I was 10.
7- My little brother is a pretty badass turntablist.
8- I hitchhiked to my first job as a 14 year old snowboard instructor at Attitash Mountain in New Hampshire.
9- I did a LOT of hitchhiking when I was in college. I found that having a sign that says “Late to Work” did the best job of pulling in rides. My longest run was from Nashville, TN to Rochester, NY.
10- I was a pretty radical student drug reform activist in college and started a group that turned into an amazing nationwide student organization- Students for Sensible Drug Policy- http://ssdp.org/
11- I got kicked out of school for said activism, saving myself a lot of student loan debt. Google my name, the full story is on the second or third page of results.
12- I derailed a train when I was 8. It was an accident, no one got hurt, and it was pretty badass, in an utterly destructive sorta way. Seriously.
13- Every now and then I get struck by the awesomely crazy awareness that I get paid to blog.
14- I was an extra in the movie The Good Son, with Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood. I look at the camera for a few seconds in the scene after the little girl goes through the ice. Look for the dorky kid in glasses.
15- I’ve been snowboarding for 20 years. That makes me feel REALLY old. I remember a time when I’d be the only rider on the hill.
16- Though I went through high school mostly on the geekish side of things, I did pull off throwing a pretty epic party in the summer after my freshman year of college. I even had Tshirts to commemorate the event. Gunth’s Groovefest for the win.
17- I didn’t go to college as a virgin. Barely.
18- I was on a high school quiz show broadcast on New Hampshire Public TV and I choked up hard. It was pretty gruesome, I’m really happy it was pre-YouTube.
19- I once had an in-depth conversation with Sinbad about how to create and foster online communities at an Apple conference.
20- I LOVE balsamic vinegar. It’s a daily staple.
21- Someday I’m going to buy my dad a big sailboat.
22- I almost got brained by a Tshirt vendor at Woodstock ‘99 when he mistook me for a looter after all hell had broken loose (I was filming, it was dark, he came at me swinging a hammer).
23- I used to own an amazing green ‘77 VW Westfalia camper van that I mounted a spinning globe to. You are missed Floyd.
24- I’ve been an atheist all my life. I got kicked out of Catholic Sunday School for asking too many questions. I am now a proud Pastafarian.
25- I have saved all the books that have graced my bookshelf since I was in the 5th grade.
26- I’ve never been good at following arbitrary rules.
